LAUREN'S CONVERSION STORY
at www.CONVERTSTOISLAM.com

My name is Lauren, I am in the process of converting to Islam w/ the help of
a friend. I live in a small town in Illinois. Almost everybody is white and
there is a church on basically every corner. I came to know the beauty of
Islam when i was in 9th grade. I am now in 10th grade. My family wasn't all
that religious when i was growing up, we went to church about every sunday
and i participated in youth gruoup. About 4 years ago we just stopped going,
i don't know why. Even when i was in church, didn't feel close to God. About
2 years later I was starting to feel alone and sad and i didn't know why,
until one night it hit me....The thing that was missing that was making me
happy was God. So, I have always been interested in different cultures and
religions and I started looking for a new religion because I didn't feel a
connection to god in church or being a part of the Christian faith. I first
got my first glimpse of Islam in Geography class. We were studying the
Middle East. We talked about Islam, but no one was really listening but me.
I was astounded on how Muslims lived their lives. I loved how they were so
close to God, and seemed so peaceful when they prayed. I realized that would
be something i would look into. So i came home and started doing research on
Islam for about 4 months. I LOVE it!! but the only problem was i didn't know
anyone who was a muslim. Until i remembered a girl in my grade named Lena. I
remeber someone telling me she was a muslim. I about jumped for joy because
i was so excited. Lena was in Palestine visiting her family and i was so
worried because that was when the Isralie-Lebanon conflict was going on. I
emailed her pouring out my heart on wanting to become a muslim. She emailed
me back and was shocked and extremely happy about it. She and I emailed each
other for a while until she got back. We started 10th grade and she helped
me a lot on getting to know Islam. She took me to her Mosque and I loved it!
I met so many new friends that support me and help me! I am almost ready to
take my Shahdah, but i want to be in the mosque when I do it, it will help
me feel complete. My parents don't really care about me having an interest
in Islam, but my mom is a little worried with living in a small town, which
means small town, small minds. I have decided to wear my hijab when i get to
college and join the local mosque there. I am so happy and i have found
inner peace thanks to Allah! I am so greatful to Lena, she has helped me so
much with the process:)!
