Once an individual has freely accepted Islam, without any coercion from anyone else and Islam is in their heart, they are Muslim.<\/p>\n

It is a common belief amongst many born Muslims that the new convert\/revert must declare in front of two witnesses for the declaration to \u2018officially\u2019 count, this is untrue but the practice is a great way for the new convert\/revert\n to introduce themselves to their respective communities.<\/p>\n

The declaration known as Al-Shahadatain (The two testimonies). The declaration has been written in Arabic transliteration for easy pronunciation.<\/p>\n

The two testimonies are: <\/span>Ash-haduan alla ilaaha illallah <\/u><\/strong>(I bear witness and attest that there is no God worthy of worship but the One God Allah (swt))<\/strong>\n \n  <\/u>\n <\/strong>Wa ash-hadu anna Muhammad-ar-rasool ullaah <\/u><\/strong>(I bear witness and attest that Muhammad (saaw) is the messenger of Allah (swt).<\/strong><\/p>\n

Upon becoming a Muslim(ah) you are given a new clean slate from then. Repenting for our sins is always a good thing and asking forgiveness for previous sins we may have committed whilst being a non-Muslim is also highly important.<\/p>\n

This new journey is ongoing, it is impossible to absorb all facets of Islam immediately and you may very likely feel there is a mass of information to learn but please try not to be too daunted.<\/p>\n

Islam is a vast ocean of knowledge, a complete code for life and just like a new swimmer we can only paddle in the shallow end until we learn to swim.<\/p>\n

Learning at your own pace is very important, please don\u2019t let zealous yet very well meaning Muslims hurry you along, Allah(swt) is \u2018As-Sabur\u2019 (The Patient One) and knows full well the circumstances you are facing.<\/p>\n

It obviously makes sense to begin by learning about those duties that are obligatory upon you, for example the daily prayers. Keep in mind that you do not necessarily need to be proficient in an act before you perform it; it is permissible\n for you to perform your prayers from a book until you come to know the words and actions.<\/p>\n

As with anything in life, regular practice leads to perfection; prayers and other compulsory elements of the faith will become second nature to you very quickly Insha’Allah.<\/p>\n

Seeking knowledge is your divine right and two very famous ahadith of the Prophet(saaw) state the point clearly: \u201cSeek knowledge even as far as China\u201d \u201cSeek knowledge from cradle until the grave\u201d<\/p>\n

Needless to say some born Muslims will be adamant that you must do \u2018this and that\u2019 exactly as they say, in actuality true Islam isn\u2019t stuck in rigidity and habitual practice, knowledge should lead to greater awareness.<\/p>\n

Islam is now the fastest growing faith in the world, especially in the western world females are converting in their multitudes and statistics show that for every five new converts four are female. Female or Male you can get support\n and strength from many others that have already taken this step.<\/p>\n

Remember to always ask Allah(swt) to help you in your quest for learning and progress.<\/p>\n

(2.186) And when My servants ask you concerning Me, then surely I am very near; I answer the prayer of the suppliant when he calls on Me, so they should answer My call and believe in Me that they may walk in the right way.<\/p>\n
